Pupdate! On December 18, 2020, a little more then a year ago, out of the blue, my sister-in-law asked me if I still wrote stories. I was surprised by the question, and asked, “I told you that five years ago. How do you remember that?” I hadn’t written stories in years and had forgotten how much I loved it.
Because I had some time, I decided to write my first short story in ages. Since it was around Christmas, I decided to write about a disabled man, alone at Christmas, wanting to make a difference, so he went down to a shelter to look at some senior dogs. Here’s my short story if you would like to read it. https://juliasdogblog.com/2021/01/01/no-one-should-be-alone-on-christmas/
After I finished writing it, I showed it to my parents and my Dad edited it for me. On New Year’s Eve, I told my brother how late I had stayed up, and he asked, “What do you do at 3 a.m.?” I told him I liked to do a lot of things, like read, watch TV, and thanks to my sister-in-law and a dear friend’s encouragement, I had decided to write again.
The next morning, New Year’s Day (one year ago today!), my brother surprised me by creating my very own dog blog and posting my short story on it!
2021 has been, no doubt, a challenging year for all of us, but there are many people who made this past year great for me: my sister-in-law and dear friend who encouraged me to write again, my brother who surprised me and created this blog, my Dad who became my editor and makes me a better writer, and, of course, you my readers who make this a joy. I’m also very thankful that this year I got a new job that I love! Now, what will 2022 bring? How was your year? Got a “pup-date” for me?
