The “Ulti-mutt” Christmas Surprise!

This Christmas I was given the “ulti-mutt” present for a dog lover – and surprise – twice! I have two very dear friends who had the same creative idea to surprise me and bring a huge smile to my face!

On Saturday, October 9th, my great friend from my former home in Maryland texted me asking me to send her a recent picture of Sunny looking straight at the camera because she wanted to see how much she had changed. I went outside that day, called Sunny up, and asked her to sit. See, I’m a perfectionist, so I tried the best I could to get a clear picture of Sunny looking right at me. Sometimes, the picture wouldn’t come out clearly because she would move. Other times, because I was taking too long, she would start impatiently licking her lips, tired of modeling for me and wanting a treat for being a good girl. So I did the best I could and got one good photo of Sunny looking at me from one side, licking her lips, anticipating a treat, and sent that to my friend.

Then on Sunday, November 14, my other friend from here in North Carolina texted me asking if I could send her a close up of Sunny’s face and head. At first, I sent her the same close up of Sunny looking at me sideways, licking her lips, waiting for a treat. After I had sent that she said she needed a photo of Sunny looking right at the camera. So instead, I sent her one of the first photos I had taken with Sunny while she was laying on my lap and I took myself out of the picture, so my friend would have a closeup of Sunny’s face.

On Thursday, December 16, I got a package in the mail from my friend from Maryland. It was packaged up so well with so much wrapping paper, I joked with my Mom, “Wow, she really wants to keep the suspense!” When I finally got it unwrapped and opened it, I was thrilled to see a personalized wood carving of Sunny from the picture I sent sticking her tongue out and licking her lips from Woodcuts by Alyssa Kay! https://m.facebook.com/WoodcutsByAlyssaKay/?tsid=0.022321358606745334&source=result

I was so happy, so I quickly texted my friend and thanked her for this wonderful and thoughtful gift, and told her I couldn’t wait to find the perfect place for it.

Three days later, Sunday, December 19, my friend from North Carolina came in to Church with a Christmas present for me. I opened it and was delighted to find an etched picture of Sunny on wood in a beautiful wooden frame! I was so excited and told her I loved it, and I gave her several hugs and thank you’s!

And to make it even better, my Mom showed Sunny her sketched picture and her reaction was precious! She came up close, sniffing it, and wagging her tail like a helicopter! It’s like she knew it was her! I absolutely love how my  two friends thought alike and did something so similar by two different artists! I’m so thankful for my two great friends and their thoughtful personalized gifts that will be treasured forever!

I’ve always loved to write stories ever since I was a kid. I started writing stories again, at the end of 2020. These stories will be about not only how we change dog’s lives, but how they change ours as well.
