“In the Line of Fur:” My Review of Episode 4 of “Turner and Hooch”

“Turner and Hooch” is an exciting new series on Disney+ based on the classic movie with the same title and the same premise; an OCD clean freak US Marshall, Turner, is reluctantly stuck with a huge slobbering troublesome Mastiff named Hooch.

This episode, like each one, has a cute dog pun in the title. “In the Line of Fur” is a play on the 1993 thriller about J.F.K’s assassination, “In the Line of Fire.”

Since Turner’s partner, Jessica Baxter, is pregnant and has been involved in multiple shootouts, he has no choice but to ask another officer Xavier to go with him on the next case. Jessica tells him that he can learn a lot from Xavier, but Turner is aggravated because of his nonsensical conversations and constant questions, especially because he keeps asking about his personal life.

Turner finds out that his ex-girlfriend Brooke is the prosecutor on this case, a murder trial. The judge is threatened by a crime boss. Trying to charm his old girlfriend, Turner decides to be the judge’s security guard. He has no idea what he is signing up for though as the judge is not only very demanding, but also insults both Turner and Hooch.

The judge’s insults turn out to be the highlight of the episode for me. He insists that Turner, played by Josh Peck, looks like Nick Jonas from the Jonas Brothers. When Turner walks in with Hooch by his side, the judge asks if the 101 Dalmatians are going to join his security team – a clever Disney reference that made me laugh out loud.

I also really enjoyed when Erica, the dog trainer, was helping Turner train Hooch to focus. She tells him that our dogs usually focus on what we focus on. Turner looks over at Erica’s dog, Angel, and realizes that he is right in her “line of fire” visually. Angel is staring right at him. Is this a subtle indication that Erica too is focused on him and has a crush on Turner?

I’ve always loved to write stories ever since I was a kid. I started writing stories again, at the end of 2020. These stories will be about not only how we change dog’s lives, but how they change ours as well.
