For those of you who don’t know, I’m a preacher’s kid. My Dad is a Pastor and this morning, Palm Sunday, his message was titled “It’s Not About Me.” I thought I’d practice what he preached and so I’ll have him be my guest columnist and not make it all about me! 😊 Here is how he started and, trust me, it’s very dog-centric and fits my blog perfectly. After reading it, you’ll know why I’m such a dog person. Here it is:

“IT’S ALL ABOUT ME!” That’s what our cat’s every look said, every move said. On the other hand, our dog’s every slobber, every tail wag, every heart beat said “IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU, MASTER!”

When we would come home, our dog Skipper would bark excitedly, jump around, jump up on us, excited to see us. It was obvious, he genuinely missed us.
On the other hand, when we would come home, our cat Sherlock avoided eye contact coolly and indifferently as if to say, “Oh, you’re home finally? Where WERE you? I have NEEDS you know!”

Our dog’s enthusiasm said, “You feed me, you take care of me everyday – for nothing! YOU MUST BE GOD!”
Our cat’s aloofness said, “You feed me, you take care of me everyday – all for nothing! I MUST BE GOD!”
Are YOU the cat who thinks “IT’S ALL ABOUT ME”?
That was just the introduction of my Dad’s Palm Sunday message, “It’s Not About Me: The Jackass Who Thought It Was All About Him.” What if the donkey Jesus rode into town thought all the hubbub and praise was for him? Apologies to any cat people out there, but I thought my dog lover friends would love it like I did.
Dog spelled backwards is God. ( Sorry cat people. )
